Subject Headings for Researching Poverty
The ATLA Religion database is the first stop for finding articles in theology and religion. Some relevant subjects used in this database are listed below.
To perform a subject search:
2. Type (all caps) DE and then place the subject in quotation marks: i.e. (DE "Climatic changes").
3. If you want to add a keyword to narrow results, you can either do this after you conduct the broader search, either by clicking on one of the narrower topics that appear on the left side of the screen, or by adding a keyword to one of the empty search boxes that appears in the "Advanced Search" screen.
Some helpful subjects in ATLA:
Bible. New Testament -- Economics
Capitalism -- religious aspects -- Christianity
Church work with the poor
Economic development -- ethical aspects
Economic development -- religious aspects
Globalization -- ethical aspects
Poverty -- biblical teaching
ATLA is the only database that provides for searching by Scripture chapter and verse; see these tutorials for using the ATLA Scripture Search.
One tip: if the passage you're searching has a popular name in addition to a scripture reference (e.g., "lost sheep parable"), it can be helpful to do the scripture search first, then follow it with a subject search for the popular name.
